Anshul Trivedi, who’s recently wrapped up the shoot of two Gujarati film projects in the UK, is currently shooting for another Gujarati film. Even though Anshul’s is almost living out of his suitcase thanks to his chock-a-block schedule, he’s “hungry for more work and across mediums. I am looking forward to exploring OTT as a platform to enrich my experience as an actor.” Excerpts from a chat:
You have been away from the small screen for some time now. Your last show was Balika Vadhu 2. Is it a conscious choice to have stayed away from TV since you are currently focusing on films?
It’s not a conscious choice really, but my work pattern has been like this.
I complete one TV show, take a break for few months before starting a new show. Although, after my last telly stint in
Balika Vadhu 2
, I had been constantly doing movie projects, so there was hardly any window to associate with a daily soap. Also, when it comes to Hindi TV, I want to wait for the right project to come my way because I don't take up anything and everything. Having said that, I have not given up on TV, I cannot be away from small screen for too long-- this is the medium that gave me recognition as an actor. Also, you have to factor in the point that the fame and love that an actor receives for doing a small screen show is massive because Hindi TV’s reach is also global.
We’ve heard you are all set to do some OTT projects. As someone who’s done TV and films, how important is this medium for you? More importantly, do you have the bandwidth to move to another medium now?
OTT is one of the most powerful mediums right now -for actors, filmmakers, and storytellers. OTT has changed the dynamics of entertainment completely in the last two years. Filmmakers and actors from regional film industries are no longer stars in their particular regions, they have found pan-India acceptance. I feel OTT has revived the careers of many actors, given so many deserving actors their due and made them pan-India celebrities. OTT also doesn’t have to adhere to a time limit to tell a story and can experiment a lot more with stories - it is creatively satisfying. I am currently in talks with a few makers for OTT projects – I am looking forward to this experience. I am hungry for good work and can happily straddle different mediums at this point.
